About Me

Hi I’m Shaz a UI designer based in London, UK. I create deliverable UI designs for your mobile apps, websites and software. I am a creatively driven individual who is passionate about nurturing ideas and helping them grow into something more exciting.

I help create UIs for mobile applications and web apps for multiple platforms. To keep myself informed with what’s happening in the tech world I am involved in the tech communities such as Ladies Who Code, TransCode and taking part in hackathons and attending conferences.

When I’m not designing I am always looking for new creative outputs such as bookbinding, soap making, baking, making new recipes and currently learning how to play the ukulele.

Designing for emails

By | Email Design, Graphic Design | No Comments

Email design is a tricky thing to do. There are many more limitations with it than there is for web design or mobile design.

Email design is pretty old school and uses tables for design. Meaning anything you design has to be contained in a square and nothing fancy an be applied to the styling. So any gradients and drop shadows are a no. Unless you were to make that area into an image.
Your font choices are also limited to web safe fonts like arial, times new roman, helvetica etc. If the design is to contain real text you will have to stick to those fonts and make sure text and image/styling do not overlap as this isn’t plausible in most email clients.

What I Learned About Web Design in 2014

By | Graphic Design, UI Design, Web Design | No Comments

2014 has been the year that I’ve learned a lot about UI/UX and design principles. It’s been a very busy year for my growth as a designer and I plan to keep on top of that this year so I can deliver the best possible work I can.

I’ve compiled a list of what I have learned over the past year working in a design agency.

1. Mobile first / Responsive Design

When designing for multiple platforms over the past year I’ve come to the realisation that everyone wants a mobile first approach to their website. Meaning the best way to achieve this is to make sure everything works in a responsive grid with the correct margins, widths, paddings etc.

Working in the digital industry

By | UI Design, Web Design | No Comments

When I first started designing websites & UI, I was clueless as to what I was doing. So I started reading books and then I began researching to see what other more experienced designers were doing. I started mimicking their designs for practise, and to get the hang of what it was like to design for multiple screen resolutions.

My first Hack

A few weeks back I went to my first with Ladies Who Code. It was a very enjoyable experience. I had the chance to put my head together with a bunch of developers and come up with an idea, develop it and execute it. We ended up making a website that allows you to see if an area is safe for Read More
